Background of Kota Iskandar
Kota Iskandar is an administrative centre for the state government of Johor, Malaysia. It is located in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru District and it is the first phase of the Iskandar Puteri project. It was named after the late Sultan of Johor, Almarhum Sultan Iskandar. The Iskandar Puteri project itself is a part of Iskandar Malaysia. Kota Iskandar was developed by Cahaya Jauhar Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the State of Johor and the first Phase was completed in 2008. The concept of Kota Iskandar pays reverent tribute to the Islam, the official state religion of Johor. The design of Kota Iskandar seamlessly blends Johor's heritage in its masterplan, architecture, interior design and landscape. The Qiblat Axis is the main reference point linking Bangunan Sultan Ismail (legislative arm), Bangunan Dato' Jaafar Muhammad (executive arm), Dataran Makhota (the people's place) and the Mosque. This symbolizes that Islam provides the guiding principles in the State Government's administration. The six buildings clusters around this central precinct are aligned towards the Dataran Makhota creating 6 axial lines representing the Islamic Faith Principle. The overall layout resembles a floral sprig. The central axis as siem from which sprout 6 equal-sized petals symbolising fairness and equality of executive offices, systematic and cohesive administration. The developer is Cahaya Jauhar Sdn. Bhd. (a joint venture company of Johor State Secretary Incorporation and UEM Land Berhad).
